Surrealist artist Sarah Jacobs is working on a mural depicting the history of the Pennsylvania community where she grew up.

I’m working on a 1,000-sq. ft. mural about the history of Adams County, Pennsylvania, home of Gettysburg and where I’m from.
The location is the exterior of the Gettysburg Beyond the Battle Museum. The museum presents the full history of the area rather than focusing solely on the Civil War battle.
More about Sarah’s work: A deeply philosophical approach to painting
It’s being commissioned by the museum and by the Adams County Arts Council, which is launching a mural initiative this year to celebrate the 250th.
In the above photo, you’re only seeing about 35 sq. ft. of it. It’s BIG!
Since it’s my artwork, it will be a little surreal – time will collapse.
I wish I could show you the mock-up of my full design, but it’s a secret!

However, I’ve included some detailed images below as a sneak peek.
I’m painting this mural on a substrate called polytab, which will be applied to the exterior surface in a grid to form one huge image. It’s a bit like hanging super durable wallpaper.

On June 27, I will be giving an artist talk with brunch and mimosas at the Erie Art Museum for my solo show, Reflections, which is up through Feb 2027.
Here and Now: Contemporary Feminists, curated by Judy Barie, opens at the Chautauqua Institution on June 28 and lasts through July 2.
