Artists like Migiwa Orimo use their abilities to give voice to political dissent at a time when our democratic republic is being strained and tested by those who wish to dismantle it.
We’ve previously featured the incredible work of Tokyo-born interdisciplinary artist Migiwa Orimo, who has called Yellow Springs, Ohio, her home for several decades.
In addition to her artistic creations, Orimo is behind an ongoing project called “The People’s Banner Workshop,” which produces signs and props for protest rallies, picket lines, and other street actions for social justice.

She and a group of passionate dissenters of Trump’s authoritarian ambitions recently took to the streets to protest the heavy-handed federal budget cuts directed by Elon Musk and the checks and balances that hold the government accountable to the people.

“During recent years, we have witnessed a significant cultural shift in our country––and in the world,” Orimo told Postindustrial.
“To me, an ongoing question has been: ‘Are there moments when history requires us to respond with a sense of urgency? If so, are we at one of those moments?’”
“I believe we are.”
