The nonprofit supporting the city’s growth recently launched 412Jobs, a free online service designed to streamline and localize the job search process in Pittsburgh, aiming to combat population decline by connecting job seekers with real, updated opportunities.

This free service aggregates job postings from over 40 websites, refreshing listings almost every hour to minimize outdated or “ghost” jobs, a significant issue for job seekers.
Ghost jobs, estimated by Forbes to comprise up to 36% of postings, often represent positions that are either filled or never existed, wasting applicants’ time.
By pulling listings from existing boards and refreshing them frequently, the creators of 412Jobs said their platform ensures users apply directly to open, legitimate opportunities.
412Jobs is part of LifeinPittsburgh.com, a suite of apps by Pittsburgh Tomorrow aimed at welcoming and retaining newcomers to combat the city’s population decline.
Despite Pittsburgh’s high ranking on WalletHub’s 2026 “Best Cities for Jobs” list, local job seekers face challenges due to a mismatch between job postings and meaningful employment opportunities. 412Jobs addresses these issues by offering a localized, up-to-date job search experience.
Caroline Fisher, head of Storytelling at Pittsburgh Tomorrow, noted that many people leave Pittsburgh or are hesitant to move there due to perceived job shortages.

“It’s truly brutal out there,” Fisher said. “That’s why we made [412Jobs], because one of the number one reasons we hear qualitatively from people in Pittsburgh is the lack of jobs and career opportunities.”
Henry Heuck, director of digital development at Pittsburgh Tomorrow, emphasized the platform’s local depth, allowing users to sort job listings by neighborhood—a crucial feature in a city where commuting can be cumbersome due to its unique geography.
“Our goal is to assist those who wish to live in Pittsburgh—whether relocating, dreaming of a move, or trying to stay—by helping them find their dream jobs here,” said Heuck.
Unlike traditional job boards, 412Jobs offers industry filters, job-saving functionalities, and easy sharing options, all without fees or sponsored listings. Developed via agentic methods, the platform exemplifies how AI can enhance human experiences by simplifying processes rather than replacing jobs.
Fisher highlighted her personal experience of moving back to Pittsburgh and the challenges of discovering job opportunities. She emphasized the importance of making Pittsburgh’s job scene more accessible and modernized, noting, “It’s truly a problem of getting the word out.”
Since its recent launch, 412Jobs has already seen significant user engagement, with 60 job applications submitted without any paid advertising. This early interest indicates the platform’s potential to become a central hub for local employment opportunities.
Looking ahead, Pittsburgh Tomorrow plans to enhance 412Jobs by integrating features like photo recognition for community board postings, further expanding its reach and accessibility.
The platform is part of a broader ecosystem that includes Life in Pittsburgh and other initiatives aimed at connecting residents through work, play, and volunteering.
Fisher and Heuck both noted that their efforts reflect the broader mission to make Pittsburgh one of the most welcoming cities in the world, while addressing challenges such as population decline and promoting entrepreneurship and local business growth.
