Last night’s seismic political jolt to Capitol Hill and states’ leadership includes big wins for Democrats in Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, and elsewhere.

I was expecting races so close that we still wouldn’t have a clear picture of the new political landscape by this morning.
However, the first Postindustrial governors’ race results were announced even before my Election Night pizza arrived.
Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Illinois reelected their Democratic governors, as expected.
We learned a short while later that Georgia’s Democratic senator easily won reelection, only to be outshined by a win for the Georgia record books.
Former Democratic Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms became the first Black female governor in the country.
Not to be overlooked, Wisconsin also elected a Black governor for the first time.
And Ohio elected that state’s first female governor!
Almost as an afterthought, Michigan’s new governor is a woman replacing the two-term Gretchen Whitmer.
Then, much later in the night, we learned that history was made again with the election of the first Muslim to the U.S. Senate.
Lots still to digest from these results in the days and weeks to come, but the bottom line is America’s political landscape experienced a reconfiguring for the ages.
I still can’t believe what we witnessed and need more time to digest the implications of the results for our community and country.
Stay tuned.
