A dangerous heat wave is searing Postindustrial Communities, affecting tens of millions of people and showing no signs of easing until midweek.

The National Weather Service issued heat advisories across a wide swath of the country, affecting states such as Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, as well as many of their neighbors.
Officials in several states warned people to stay indoors when possible, remain hydrated, and protect outdoor pets from the oppressive conditions.
The intense heat is caused by a “heat dome,” a high-pressure system that traps hot, humid air, resulting in several Postindustrial cities like Chicago, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh reporting heat indices over 100°F.
