For 100 Days in Appalachia, West Virginia photographer Rebecca Kiger reported on Jacob’s ladder, an addiction recovery program in rural Aurora, West Virginia. Dr. Kevin Blankenship runs the farming-based rehab program, and the men featured in the photo series are the subjects of the feature-length documentary Recovery Boys, which was directed by Academy Award nominee Elaine McMillion Sheldon, a West Virginia native. The residential program was created three years ago, in response to drug addiction recovery, and is focused on integrating daily farming and gardening activities to other recovery programming in an effort to increase “future thinking”. Recovery Boys can be streamed on Netflix.
